Voting Question: I am Trying to Get to Alaska?

I'm planning a trip to Alaska. I do not want to fly. I need to get from Seattle WA to Fairbanks, AK. I plotted a course on google maps and it seems possible. However I can't find any buses that seem to do this. I've also looked at ferry options which will cost 540$ just as a one way and that is unacceptable. Is there some Alaskan travel industry I should be aware of? The closest it seems I can get is, Prince George, BC. Also, I will be entering Canada, obviously, do I need to have something like a visa or some kinds of permission card to enter in?
